Product Description

CD Description

On SAHARA BLUE, mercurial composer Hector Zazou has assembled an all-star cast of players from various electronic and experimental fields for a set that's simply universal in scope. Participants include percussionist Steve Shehan, Dead CanDance duo Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, journeyman bassist and producer Bill Laswell, Samy Birnbach, electronic duo Lightwave, actor Gerard Depardieu, Tim Simenon, David Sylvian, and a gaggle of others.
Structurally, SAHARA BLUE is all over the proverbial map. Spoken word dialogues reverberateover gentle ambient atmospherics and glacial guitar ("FirstEvening"), crunchy tech-hop ("I'll Strangle You"), tribal pop-funk ("Youth"), and gentle, world-pop lullabies ("Black Stream"). It's a deliciously eclectic stew, magnificently composed and played, with Zazou as the ringmaster expertly corralling his troops for optimum sonic pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sahara Blue .. awesome, 11 Aug 2002

This is an exhilerating and original concept. First Evening is my favourite track, it completely took my breath away. The guitar arrangements are as good as the poetry. Its a cd that should be part of anyones collection

5.0 out of 5 stars A Genuine One-Off, 23 Sep 2009
By Mr. Richard Clay "Richard Bruce Clay" (Stourbridge, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album was released in 1992 and, yes, it sounds as much. The cool, clean electronica and unnaturally clear production make it a thing of its time. Bill Laswell's heavy dub-influenced bass on some tracks add to the effect. Dated, certainly, in the same way as Nirvana and John Zorn's Naked City are dated. But that doesn't stop it from being very very good. Partly, it's the talent on display, here. Sleazy old John Cale sounds as charmingly absinthe-soaked as Aleister Crowley's carpet and Gerard Depardieu recites with utter conviction. David Sylvian turns in performances every bit as good as anything on 'Blemish' or 'Secrets of the Beehive.' Khaled astounds and the arrangements on 'I'll Strangle You' and the shattering 'Ophelie' astound. One of the absolute must-haves of 90s music. A masterpiece.
