5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic, 16 Dec 2002
By Colin (Samoa) - See all my reviews
This album has it all, from the Pop-reggae rythym of "come and take me" to the classic mysterical reggae rythm of "Kingston Town and Impossible Love" I have grown up with UB40 and its tunes and songs like this that make you want to hear it over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers which renew and surpass the originals., 2 Nov 2003
By Matt "Dash" (Miller Place, New York United States) - See all my reviews
I really, really love this album. An amazing collection of ultimate covers, this album has a sound all it's own. Combining classic 80's drum machines and synths with soulful guitars and horns, it is the definitive electronic reggae album. While some believe this is against the simplicity of Reggae, combining the style with electronics takes nothing away from the purity of the reggae.

The album is spattered with highlights and classics. The horn/guitar solo in "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" is a moment of pure bliss. "The Way You Do The Things You Do" is perhaps the best example of TR-808 drum machines within a reggae constraint, the bass riff as pounding and groovy as if it were modern. "Kingston Town" is a perfect slow song, full of a very simplistic emotion of love which dominates the album. "Stick By Me" is a very pleasant anthem of friendship and compassion.

UB40 is without a doubt one of the best reggae groups to originate out of Jamaica. This album is a testament to their love of the genre and their talent in performing the classics.

I would recommend this album to anyone, including people who do not like or have never heard Reggae. Young or Old can enjoy this album, it is timeless and belongs to everyone. Not being a fan of Dancehall style of Reggae, it is pleasnt to have an electronic form of Reggae that remains pure and gives that true feeling of happiness that the form always tries to suggest. This truly is a Labour of Love...listen to this album and you will enjoy it. It is a masterpiece, perhaps the best of UB40, and ranking up there with the all-time best of Reggae.
