Wings is a an early compilation of a very prolific and talented group of singers indeed. 8 of the 10 songs on this album are written by Brian and I feel its his magic with words that make Artisan such a pleasure to listen to. I recently bought the book 'waxing lyrical - songs of Brian Bedford' and its true to say that his words would be enough to make me buy this album even without the beautifully full and heart warming harmonies.
This album is a good taster to one of the greats of English Folk but its a shame that more of their recent works are not available. I would urge anyone interested to track down there most recent album, Dancing with words (Which won a CARA in 2001) and work there way back through the collection. I have all of their 10 albums and feel my life would be a lot less rich without the company of Brians insights into the details of life, Or Hilaries powerful, clear and sensitive vocals.
I have seen them live many times, both here and in America, and every time Brian comes out with another song of the quality of 'Wings', 'Breathing Space', 'Roads' and the most recent 'I saw another you' from 'Dancing with Words' I feel that little bit better about life in general.
All of there recent albums are mixed by Brian himself and for those who appreciate the overall production quality you should check out all of Bill Jones' albums which are also produces by Brian. (Does the talent stop).

The selection on this CD is varied and interesting. Artisan are worthy of more praise than I can give. "What's the use of wings" describes how we all feel at some time or another. Exciting and imaginative (especially the One minute song). Who would have thought of doing that one? Only Brian!
