4.0 out of 5 stars Just My Review....., 21 May 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 4 Satin (Audio CD)
The three-song 4 Satin EP finds Mogwai refining their mesmerizing, understated style. The music is a little louder, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's more accessible. Throughout 4 Satin, the drums and guitars weave complex, intricate patterns which are primarily rhythmic, not melodic, and they slowly build to great washes of sound. Given the subtlety of their music, it's appropriate that 4 Satin isn't a great leap ahead, but rather a small, assured step forward demonstrating that Mogwai is developing into a uniquely fascinating band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not essential, 5 Aug 2001
By A Customer
When you start listening to this EP you are greeted with electronic drums and a wonderful almost ambient piece of music, but the further into the EP you get it becomes a little more dissapointing. The second track is nice, and the third track, stereodee, is about 2 minutes of pretty cool music which just end up as about 15 minutes of mad distortion, some crazy organ and near the end is some japan-esque techno music. Altogether its not quite what you'd expect if you'd heard anything else by Mogwai. Although, this EP is worth buying if you feel starved of their music and you've bought everything else they have to offer, if just for the first two and a bit songs.
