Product Description

CD Description

After disbanding in 1974, Robin Williamson and Mike Heron didn't play together until this concert at London's Bloomsbury Theater in 1997. Joined by an additional guitarist and a percussionist, the pair put together a set that is a celebration of The Incredible String Band's legacy. As they did on their albums, The Incredible String Band divides their selections equally between material written by Williamson and Heron. Also included here is Tom Paxton's "Every Time I Hear theSweet Birds Singing" and the Carter Family's "You've Been aFriend to Me" (which, appropriately, closes the show). Recorded live, direct to DAT, BLOOMSBURY 1997 captures the concert for all it was--a reunion between these two performers and their devoted audience. Williamson and Heron don't hit thenotes in the same way that they did in their 20s, but they're both consummate artists who imbue this performance with honesty and commitment. While this might not be the best album for a neophyte, it is a wonderful addition for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Diamond Geezers, 9 Dec 2008
By Greywolf (Wiltshire, UK) - See all my reviews
I was lucky enough to be at the show presented here. It was a night of pure nostalgic magic to see these two old friends back on stage together for the first time in years, running through tunes from their respective back catalogues as well as old favourites from the days when they played together in the Incredible String Band. Magic is the appropriate word, because that's precisely what these two weave with their music. We, the audience, were entranced and enchanted. This CD captures a lot of the wonder of that night, reflecting two talents who have brought so much joy and wonder into the world. Thanks, guys...
And yes, the choice of songs is good, the singing and playing a little shaky at times as one would expect at a live gig, though still great as well as being very cleanly recorded and crisply presented on this fine CD.
