Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Thanks to some radio play for "2Wicky" (from their debut album, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular), Hooverphonic won mainstream attention and early admission into the trip-hop pantheon. But this Belgian group's sound was always closer to the warm etherealness and pop aspirations of bands like Australia's Single Gun Theory than the wispy experimentalism of Portishead. Well, they'll probably still be labeled a trip-hop band, but Blue Wonder Power Milk is essentially an electronica-tinged symphonic pop album--and a very strong one, at that. The breathy coo of new vocalist Geike Arnaert melds effortlessly with the languid beats of tracks like "Club Montepulciano" and "Eden" as well as with the more muscular drum & bass of "Battersea". In fact, almost all the songs--many of which are augmented by simple string arrangements--possess a beguiling beauty guaranteed to keep your finger on the repeat button. Highly recommended. --Steve Landau

4.0 out of 5 stars It grows!, 10 Nov 2006

Being a huge fan of The Magnificent Tree after finding it in a friend's collection I was eager to find more of Hooverphonic's stuff, when I listed to Blue Wonder Powder Milk for the first time I wasn't sure if it hit the same chord but it has grown and grown and the vocal's are just as unique and enjoyable. The Magnificent Tree is still my preferred CD but you shouldn't be too disapointed if you add this to your collection too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The kind of album it's difficult to describe in words.., 7 Feb 2001
This review is from: Blue Wonder Power Milk (Audio CD)
Think Portishead. Think Single Gun Theory. Think Mono, think Goldfrapp, think wonderful, moody music... It's hard to give Hooverphonic a genre but we'll leave it at trip-hop although it is more dance-tinged than Portishead. Listen and dance.
