5.0 out of 5 stars hooray a reissue of jesus jones' finest almost an hour, 6 April 2002
By Gareth J. Dyton "chunky666" (Wales) - See all my reviews

At Last after years of trawling through the bargain bins, emi have finally had the sense to reissue jesus jones - perverse. Being an old veteran of the original jesus jones era, I remember fondly, the opening keyboard line to the fantastic "Zeroes and ones". Followed by possibly the best jesus jones song ever, "The devil you know". Looking back over this album, it's easy to see where alot of more recent music was discovered. Mike Edwards and the boys went for a harder techno edge on this album, possibly the feature which separates this from the others albums. From opener (the aforementioned zeroes and ones) though the album via amazing songs like "Yellow brown" to the moody "Your crusade" and the amazing "Spiral" you'll know why they were as popular as they were. Amazingly though, this album hasn't really dated, with the technology, songs and sounds still relevant. Truly great album, truly great band buy this and enjoy some pure class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zeroes and Ones will take us there!, 7 Jun 2007
By Simon Hall (Shipley, West Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After all these years, this album still gets regular spins on my stereo.Although sniggered at and often derided in the music press (even unto this very day), Jesus Jones ARE amazing.Perverse still represents the absolute pinacle of Mike Edwards' creativity. A very dense and highly textured album, from the excited urgency of 'The Devil You Know' and 'Magazine' to the lush techno of 'Yellow Brown' this is an album of real scope and development.Although it wears its influences on its sleeve (early Prodigy, Aphex Twin) and sometimes sounds like a ZX Spectrum having an argument with a fax machine ('Spiral'), there's a solid pop sensibility that underpins every song. Its this point that makes the album such a good listen, Mike Edwards clearly wants to move into more experimental territory, but his knack for songwriting prevents this from quite happening. All of which makes for some exciting friction in every song as the technology grapples with the gituar/bass/drums staple.Never again would Jesus Jones reach these heights. The onset of britpop and a drastic change in the musical landscape pretty much destroyed their relavence, and the Jones boys found themselves followers rather than leaders for their more gituar driven follow up 'Already'.A great shame for such a massively under rated band.Of all Jesus Jones' albums this is always the one I'd recommend. Its truly outstanding.
