5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection from a brilliant songwriter., 31 May 2000
By A Customer
This may get me killed, or at least beaten badly, but to me, Phil Lynott is the king of Rock 'n' Roll! This collection starts off with Thin Lizzy's biggest hit ("The Boys Are Back In Town") which is oddly enough, not one of their best songs. There's magic in tracks such as "Don't Believe A Word","Emerald" and "Bad Reputation" as the classic guitar duo of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson lets it rip with Phil's powerful, soulful vocals at the fore. This band was training ground for the great John Sykes (who later wrote the HUGE Whitesnake 1987 LP) and the legend we know as Gary Moore who can be heard here on the track which is considered by many to be his signature song, "Parisienne Walkways". Throughout their entire catalog, propelling the songs with some of the best rock drumming ever heard is the criminally underrated Brian Downey. Fourteen years after Lynott's tragic death, a reformed version of the band led by Gorham and Sykes have been gigging across Europe in tribute to their late friend. The fact that these shows consistantly sell out is further proof that great music is timeless and never really goes out of style. You're immortal, Phillip. Rest In Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild one, yes - but what sensitivity, depth, and feeling, 27 Mar 2002
By P. A. Murphy (London, U.K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Philip Lynott is one in a million. Listen to "Cold Sweat" and "Thunder and Lightning", then flick to "Still in Love..." and "Sarah". If we didn't know that these songs were all written by Phil, it would be very hard to believe: the former two are so powerful, the latter pair so laid back and sensitive. Take it from someone who saw Lizzy in their heyday, saw Grand Slam (Phils later solo project)several times and even saw the still gigging version of Lizzy twice last year, the likes of this man is very unlikely to be seen again. If someone says they've seen his equal, don't believe a word.
What a genius! Rest in Peace, Philip.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BAND THE WORLD WILL EVER SEE, 5 Jan 2002
This is the best cd u could ever buy. Thin Lizzy are the best band the world will ever see and this is a collection of the best songs they did, and so the best songs in the world. Like all of their songs these combine Phil Lynott's song writing and mind blowing voice with some of the best guitar sounds known to man from the combination of Robbo and one the worlds greatest guitarists, Scott Gorham, not to forget Irish legend Gary Moore and Whitesnakes John Sykes.
This is must buy for anybody with a hint of musical taste.
