3.0 out of 5 stars Dance ambient remixed., 25 Oct 2001
If you have The First Day then you have Darshan already in all it's glory. If you don't then I'd recommend that release for it's variety rather than three versions of the same song. However, if you like your music long, groovy and repetitious then this may be the album for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A textural delight, 15 Jan 2003
By Simon Barrow (Exeter, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Suspended implausibly somewhere between the impulsive energy of polyrhythmic Hungarian folk, the Mediterranean colour of world-trance and the drone echoes of post-rock, 'Darshan' was ahead of its time and now seems quite appropriate. The main interest here, of course, is the ambient re-mix by those archetypal urban sprawlers, the Future Sound Of London ('Darshana'). While FSOL have now re-emerged in the hippydrome, Robert Fripp is still soundscaping his way around planet sound. Their collision at the point in time that produced this album and tour was clearly a happy one. The collaboration with Sylvian, who is as interested here in instrumental texture as he is elsewhere in the colour of words, also works effectively. The different accounts of the basic thematic material provide several features of interest and many points of departure. A pleasing reminder of the early '90s 'Graceland' era.

2.0 out of 5 stars A long road to Graceland, 8 Jul 2003
By Edward Teach (Brisbane, Australia) - See all my reviews
Have you ever put your hand in a lucky dip? From time to time you pull out a gem, a piece of kitsch pleasure that surprises and delights. On other occasions however, you find yourself in possession of something bland and worthless. So it is when dipping into the eclectic world of David Sylvian.

The problem here is that the percentage of his material that is outstanding still out ways the mediocre and, despite a justified caution that your fingers may get burnt, you just have to give it a go.

Darshan (the road to Graceland) had been done, and done well on Fripp and Sylvian’s collaboration, The First Day. So, we ask ourselves, what value does this album have for repeating the dose with two variants of the same theme on top of the ‘original’? The answer is not a lot. It sparks of a desire to have some material ‘out there’ and proves once again that Sylvian deems the reworking of the same as important as he does creating the new. It’s a real shame, because here stands one of popular music’s great entrepreneurs and, as he has proven so many times before, a creative genius.
