5.0 out of 5 stars From Station to Station, 4 Jul 2004
By Pieter "Toypom" (Johannesburg) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)
This is the German version of the classic album. The theme of this enchanting work is travel, giving the impression of a train ride with constantly changing scenery.

The music is similar to their classic track Autobahn, with the same hypnotic qualities but with a wider symphonic scope. The vast melodic sweep provides its most gripping moments in songs like Europa Endlos and the title track, whilst the most explorative instrumental passages occur on a track like Spiegelsaal (Hall Of Mirrors).

As to be expected, Metall Auf Metall has a metallic ring, being Kraftwerk's pioneering excursion into industrial, whilst Abzug is a metallic reprise of Trans Europa Express. Franz Schubert is a beautiful melodious instrumental and this magnificent album concludes with Endlos Endlos, a final reprise of the title track. This is electronic music at its very best, a feast for the ears. Almost as great as their masterpiece Radioactivity!
