It seems there are hundreds of Shirley Bassey "Greatest Hits"/"Best of" compilations that all feature the same songs in different order. This release is a little different as it mainly focuses on the 1970's. Of the songs not normally found on other compilations; there is the 1978 "Disco" version of "This Is My Life", Shirley's wonderful reading of "No Regrets" (not the Edith Piaf song, but the song later made famous by the Walker Brothers), "Yesterday When I Was Young" (a song so closely associated with Bassey but always ignored by the compilation compilers!), and Bassey's version of "The Greatest Love Of All" which would be a smash hit for Whitney Houston a few years later. Of course you will also find "Goldfinger", "I Who Have Nothing", plus "Diamonds Are Forever", "Something", "Where Do I Begin", "For All We Know" and "Never Never Never"...her biggest hits of the Seventies and some of her very best recordings. Overall these 18 tracks are a great introduction to Dame Shirley Bassey and long time fans will also find a few not quite so familiar gems.
