5.0 out of 5 stars A very cool soundtrack for a very cool movie..., 1 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Easy Rider is arguably the greatest road-movie ever created, in a spaced-out sixties era which is perfectly complemented by the songs featured in the film and on this album.
While the most famous song is undoubtedly Steppenwolf's 'Born to be Wild',(cue the beginning of the film: Hopper and Fonda's journey, with the whole of America before them)every track has its place. My favourites are 'I Wasn't Born To Follow' courtesy of The Byrds, and Hendrix's acid-drenched 'If 6 Was 9' from his 1968 Axis:Bold As Love album.
For me, this is one of the only film/soundtrack combos that works on nearly all levels - both the film and the music are neatly intertwined,(so much so that Dennis Hopper's character was based directly on David Crosby)so it almost feels that one isn't complete without the other.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting if divided mix, 14 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Despite the biker theme of the film, the soundtrack contains a varied mix of songs, from the unforgettable heavy metal 'Born to be Wild', to the country & western lilt of 'Don't bogart me'. Steppenwolf's often overlooked 'The Pusher' is the best on the soundtrack. They could so easily have gone into overproduction on this song, but to their credit, simplicity is retained. The few tarnishes to the soundtrack are 'Kyrie Eleison Mardi Gras', an interesting if unlikely rennaisence and pop combination, and the childish 'If you want to be a bird',which fails to catch the essence of the film.
