3.0 out of 5 stars Alice is off the form - or is he?, 8 May 2002
By andyriley2000@yahoo.co.uk (Lancaster, England, UK) - See all my reviews
When i first listened to this album i thought it was terrible - another dismal cut from Alice's early 80's lost period, lost cause his music was mostly rubbish in the early eighties'.
However after many plays i started to enjoy parts of this album. Vicious rumours is a highlight. However what saves this album for me is the track 'you're a movie' which is brilliant, wonderfully comic and perfectly Alice. Much of the album though is fairly poor from a music standpoint. The lyrics are actually some of Alice's best, ranging into some darkness that is his trademark. However the quality of the music lets it down.
This album is a worthwile addition to a Cooper fan's collection however it will take a long time and many, many plays to grow on you. I would not reccomend any new Alice fans to buy this, it is not a good album is you are just getting into alice. Buy something like 'Welcome to my Nightmare' or 'Trash' if you're a new fan. But long-time fans should buy this Alice cut.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is so special about this, 9 Jan 2002
By Mark Goodman (Chippenham) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I think this album rates among Alice's worst. It sounds dull flat and uninspired. The music is nothing to write home about and the lyrics lack Alice's usual style and humour.

The single seven and seven is was not a bad song and Skeletons in the closet was okay. You look good in rags started well only to degenerate into an annoying accapella. The reworking of generation Landslide pales into insignificance when compared with the brilliant original.

The rest of the abum wuite frankly is not really worth listening to for the most part.

Alice has produced over 20 albums now and I guess not all can be classics. This one is for us real die hard fans only.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT SO SPECIAL FORCES, 19 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Disappointing album from a disapointing period in Alice' career. Seven & seven is worked ok for a commercial single. Look good in rags rocks ok and skeletons in the closet was interesting. I liked the reworking of generation landslide although nowhere near as good as the superb original. The rest of the album is dull and totally uninspired. Caught the 'special forces' tour though, it was fantastic
