Albinoni was financially independent and did not have to compose to earn his living. He produced works for his own pleasure, and this set of late concertos reflect the joy of musical creativity for it's own sake: they are are very attractive, inventive, and cover a relatively wide range of emotions. Don't be side-tracked down the Vivaldi vs. Albinoni, or authentic instrument/performance, roads. The playing is committed and affectionate, the recording has an appropriate acoustic ambience, and at this bargain price the double-CD should be on everyone's shelf.
