Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Classic House contains many hard-to-find tracks which have long since disappeared as singles--such as the utopian piano/vocal classics Ce Ce Rodgers's "Someday" and Joe Smooth's "Promised Land". The 12 tracks were all recorded between 1987 and 1989, mostly in Chicago and Detroit. It makes interesting listening to see quite how far dance music has evolved in the years since; in a world of escalating beats, it seems strangely slow. On release, the tracks were radical, but in retrospect, with their lush female vocals, they were much nearer traditional soul, gospel and disco than it seemed at the time. The sheer sexuality of the music makes you sweat--from the orgasm faked on Raze's "Break For Love" to the sheer sleaziness of Frankie Knuckles's "Baby Wants To Ride". This is a must-have album for anyone interested in the roots of dance music. --Sarah Champion

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic house tunes, 14 Sep 2001
By A Customer
What a tune to start with! "Someday" takes me back to my sledging days in Liverpool nightclubs, what an uplifting piano tunes it is. The tingles, hugging and kissing it used to induce! As for the second tune, anything Frankie knuckles does seems to be a masterpiece. There are so many tunes on this CD which have been sampled and are still sampled today. "Let the music(use you)" still sounds cracking, whilst "Big Fun" is the immense sound of the late eighties dance club scene. This was from a time before garage, hardcore and what ever else there is nowadays. If you weren't there when it was happening, then this CD might be lost on you. But for those who can remember, it can take you to the "Promised land".

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic House Indeed, 6 Nov 2002
An excellent collection of (mostly American) house music from the days when house was a feeling rather than just another type of pop music (all pre-1990). Most of the tracks are excellent but my personal favourites would have to be Inner City's 'Big Fun', A Guy Called Gerald's 'Voodoo Ray' and Joe Smooth's 'Promised Land'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top CD for the old skool, 22 Oct 2000
Soul moving tunes from the early house originators. All original mixes from the godfathers of house, Tears-Frankie Knuckles,Someday Ce Ce Rogers & Break 4 Love raze remind you of where it all began. This comes highly recommended for those who remeber!
