5.0 out of 5 stars Faust go ambient!, 25 Dec 2003
The sleeve notes say that this is Faust's live interpretation of the F. W. Murnau film, Nosferatu. Having seen the film, i can say that the music Faust have recorded is very good and would fit the film very well. What we have is Faust in ambient mode. The first 2 tracks are rather long (21 mins & 18 mins respectively) and they are quite reflective and eerie, punctuated by short noisy passages of sratchy guitars, sweeping organs and Zappi's constrained percussion - rather like a restrained Einsturzende Neubauten playing a lullaby. Track 3, Telepathia sounds like what you'd hear entering a church, whilst someone plays an organ in the background. The whole effect is quite beautiful, if a little scary and although this is a side of Faust that we have heard before, we have never had a full albums worth of this kind of material from them - it really is quite refreshing. I've had this album for only a week and its hardly been out of my cd player - this is a perfect album to 'chill out' to and one that i'll be listening to for a long time to come.
