Product Description
Description
The Yellow Balloon's 1967 album is to the Beach Boys what the Monkees were to the Beatles. While Brian Wilson was expanding the boundaries of pop, songwriter/producer Gary Zekley updated Wilson's abandoned sunny California sound with Byrdsy guitars and gentle psychedelia on such numbers as the sprightly "How Can I Be Down". THE YELLOW BALLOON is a pinnacle of '60s California pop, and the album spawned two classic singles, "Yellow Balloon" and "Stained Glass Window", the latter written and sung by drummer "Luke R. Yoo", better known as actor Don Grady, or, at the time as Robbie on MY THREE SONS.
Unlike most '60s pop albums, THE YELLOW BALLOON doesn't have a single clunker among the bunch. The nine bonus tracks, including demos, early Grady singles, and a seven-minuteinterview with Zekley, are equally excellent. Ditto the well-designed booklet, with tons of photos and informative liner notes by California pop historian Dom Priore. This is how reissues should be done.
