Description
This set contains all the essentials of Procol Harum, spread out over three discs. The first disc contains the band's self-titled debut and its follow-up, SHINE ON BRIGHTLY; the second disc brings together its third and fourth issues, A SALTY DOG and HOME; and the final disc contains 17 songs that are either singles, outtakes, or alternate versions. It is this third disc that contains Procol Harum's best-known song (and the band's first hit), "A Whiter Shade of Pale". A booklet provides a brief but thoughtful thumbnail history of theband that traces the group's beginnings as an R&B outfit called the Paramounts. This music has aged quite nicely in thedecades since it was written and recorded. Propulsive, regal, mysterious and soulful, there was no one else like ProcolHarum.
