5.0 out of 5 stars EXCITING RYTHMS AND SOUNDS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST, 16 Mar 2005

I was blown away by Yosefa's music. A young Yemenite-Morrocan, this Israeli woman fuses Middle Eastern themes with Western motifs plus hard rock, lightly sprinkled with New Wave electronic sounds. Turn up your base when you listen to her "The Desert Speaks" .... and try not to dislocate your pelvis when her deep percussion rhythms in the introductory "The Orchestra Replies" track #1 cause you to undulate. The sound quality of this CD is excellent, and deserves to be played on a good stereo system (with a set of decent woofers!).

Many of the tunes were composed by Yosefa's collaborator, an Israeli classically trained violinist. The program notes say that when Yosefa was in the Israeli Army, she entertained soldiers near the Lebanon border. Across the border fence, Lebanese soldiers also enjoyed her music and for a brief period there was calm and peace in a small piece of Israel. Nice. Rather than kill each other, the Jews and Arabs should respond to Yosefa's music .... and make love, not war!
