Pearl's Girl [Single] [Import], 28 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This import from Underworld is quite good. If you're and Underworld fan, then I suggest that you should try and find a copy of this album in the shops, or even buy it from here. If you're new to Underworld, then skip this review, because you might not want to waste the effort.Underworld have always been quite the prominent group in the electronica/techno scene, having such great hits as 'Born Slippy.Nuxx', 'Cowgirl', 'Dark and Long' and 'Pearl's Girl', so this album is ready to add another to that list. It's based on the 'Pearl's Girl' track from Second Toughest in the Infants, but only has that track and a shortened one in relation to it. 'Tin There' is a good thumping track off of the N64 game WipEout, but is perhaps to heavy to start the album with. '14996 Version' is the least best track on the album, I think, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with apart from Karl's lyrics jumbled up. 'Puppies' is nice and relaxing, with Karl's voice distorted into a sort of growl. 'Oich Oich' - this is a really good track that sounds like it was made next to the Loch Ness monster. Quite calming - should have been the opener. 'Cherry Pie' should be the reason you buy this album. Rowla + Born Slippy [no .Nuxx]= Cherry Pie. Very fast paced and Underworld at their best. 'Mosiac' is a good track to drive to, with chopped up calming sounds entwined in the constant drum beat. 'Deep Arch' is a good one because it builds up the effects, making the track so pleasing to the ear. Well done Underworld!
