5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent IDM / Alternative electronica, 27 May 2002
If you have any interest in something that could have been called "alternative" or "minimalistic" electronica - You will certainly love this album. It is a very clean and naked sound, almost hypnotizing. It's no party music, it is music you listen to in a dark, quiet, room in the middle of the night when nobody else is awake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the most versatile of all A albums, 12 Feb 2002
By loewens@online.no (NORWAY, Molde) - See all my reviews
This album alone tells a whole lot of Autechre's style in experimental techno music. Right from the beginning, Autechre has been the shadow of Aphex Twin. Humble to the core, Autechre's more harsh approach to beats and rythms, leave them less looked at than its brother. But look to this album, and discover everything that makes Autechre exactly what it is.

Unique in both form and tone, Autechre arises with its most versatile album to date, in that it covers all sides to their style. The album is today dated, but believe me: This CD doesn't hold a "best before" date. Get this album, which has the bonus CD. Because believe me, you will not regret it. You'll be skipping tracks to set the mood, but with all the mood swings this album has, you'll be praising this album in your record collection for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, heady stuff, 17 Oct 2008
By Mr. Warren M. Fisher (East Grinstead, West Sussex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Like a collision between Aphex Twin and Philip Glass, this dark heady stuff. Probably Autechre's finest album is bleak, relentless and furiously insistent - this is the bridge between electronic minimalism and classical minimalism.

This is the US edition and it's worth seeking out as you get a bonus disc that is more than the equal of the album disc itself. 75 minutes in length, this is two EPs sandwiched together to create seismic wall of sound that is utterly hypnotic.

This is a must-have for all fans of electronica and contemporary classical (the nexus where Autechre exists) and essential to the duo's die hard devotees. If you are newcomer prepared to be thrilled and transfixed by the duo's rare and explosive genius. A stone-cold classic.
