Well, it forced me to write my one and only review..., 1 Sep 2003
A friend brought this on holiday with my wife and I recently. Never heard of the singer before. The album is one of those ones where, once you've heard it you think you've heard all the tunes before, but you haven't. It so quickly becomes something you find yourself whistling or thinking on when doing chores etc.Simply put, it's mostly one guy with a guitar singing. Not the most classical voice. Not the most ornamentation in the playing. Simply some of the most beautiful music I have heard. The song "this love will carry" alone merits buying the CD. Being gothic for a sec, it's the song I want at my funeral. Without being too wierd about it it's the sort of music you switch off all the lights to and listen to watching the moon through the trees outside. Only comparable CD I have in my collection is Blue by Joni Mitchell. Didn't give it four stars out of principle, since I get a bit jaded how all reviews appear to say it's the best CD ever and give it five stars. This won't surpass Stravinsky, Debussy, Kenny Burrell, etc (fill in favourites here), but it is a gem.
