5.0 out of 5 stars Get those feet moving!, 2 Mar 2002
I love disco, I love Chic, and I adore Sister Sledge. This is 'the' Sister Sledge album, it contains the classics 'we're lost in music', 'we are family' and 'he's the greatest dances'

There is a mixture of fab disco tunes and slow paced ballads, all the tracks are very good, although the ones that stand out are undoubtedly the dance tunes.

The original album was only eight tracks long, but was still value for money as many of the tracks are extended and about 6 minutes long. However, in this new version of the album, there are added remixes which definately add to the appeal of the album, particularly to the younger audience. It brings the Sister Sledge sound right up to date and makes one realise how timeless these tunes are.

The original recordings are still the best though, and the talents of the girls and Rodgers and Edwards (of Chic fame, and producers of this album) shine through on the originals best. They are infectious dance tunes that will never be out of date.

This is an album to listen to when you want cheering up; it can not fail to lift your spirits (unless, of course, you hate disco, in which case it will annoy the hell out of you!). The lyrics are original and unique to the Sister Sledge sound. I think young pop fans should listen to this album to see where a lot of today's popular music comes from (i.e Will Smith). I think it is a tribute to Sister Sledge that their music has been sampled so much, but a lot of young people have no idea who Sister Sledge or Chic are. It will be an education to you to realise that a lot of today's music is not all that original.

A must buy for any disco fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars A timeless classic that transcends the disco era., 25 Aug 2000
This album is undoubtedly a timeless classic and this is primarily due to the crucial teaming of two magical elements. The precision and meticulous production of Niles Rodgers and Bernard Edwards combined with the silky smooth vocals of the Sledge Sisters. The irony is that although the production is flawlessly polished and considered, the result is completely joyful and spontaneous. All eight songs are wonderful but the most recognizable will be the massive hits "We Are Family","He's the Greatest Dancer", "Lost In Music" and "Thinking of You". All the usual characteristics of Rodgers/Edwards productions are present here: strong melody, driving bass, funky guitar, tight soulful vocals but what is particularly impressive is the soaring add lib sections towards the end of each song ("We Are Family" is extended to a glorious eight minutes thanks to Kathy Sledge's improvisation). The never-ending samples and imitations that this album has inspired today is indicative of its durability and influence. It doesn't represent or define the disco era, it transcends it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chic At Their Very Best, 18 Jun 2004
What more can I say but a classic disco album from Rogers and Edwards, only matched by their 1980 effort for Diana Ross.

This album has all the disco monsters of 'Lost In Music', 'We Are Family' and 'He's The Greatest Dancer'. Chic even try their hand at some slower balads for some of the tracks ('Somebody To Love', 'Easier To Love', and 'Your A Friend To Me'), which is unusual for Chic, but really works for this album.

My favourit tracks have to be 'Lost In Music' and the remaining two tracks 'Thinking Of You' and One More Time'. The latter two have such a catchy groove to them that they have been sampled many a time in modern day house music.

Being a fan of house music I was glad to see that this album has been updated to include two remixes of 'We Are Family' and 'Lost In Music', which round off the album nicely.

If you like this try 'Diana Ross - Diana (Delux Edition)..A great double disc that has all of Diana Ross's disco records on disc two. A must have for any real disco fan!

Also try anything by 'Soulsoul Orchestra' or 'Loletta Holloway', both products of the Salsoul Record label. This for me has to be the no. 1 records label of the mid to late 70's and early 80's, with so many good disco records signed to it, it is difficult to know where to start. I bought an album called 'Chilled Disco' and this was full of Salsoul disco/Salsoul funk records - superb!!
