stay well clear from Babbitt's words ABOUT music and some of the dry as dust stuff written on him by the likes of Whittall,Griffiths etc.and actually listen to the music(preferably without score in hand as the notation is too finnicky by half) and you'll realise that Babbitt is the most likeable and scintillating of serialists.infact,at times you'd be hard pressed to guess that such warmth of spirit and good humor could possibly emanate from a system of any kind.sadly,Babbitt's music has never received much exposure in the UK (unlike,say Carter)
The delightfully unwieldy piano concerto is the best piece on the disc,Head of the Bed is like a mild version of 'pierrot Lunaire'
