5.0 out of 5 stars A great recording of one of Handel's lesser known works, 21 Feb 2001
The Brockes Passion has always been ignored on the argument that it is not representative for George Frideric Handel. It is true that Handel wasn't a very religious man, still, he liked this libretto by Berthold Heinrich Brockes for it's opera-like quality. After all, Handel took every opportunity to write music for a great drama and Brockes' Passion IS pure drama.

This recording features a great cast (M. Klietman, M. Zadori, D. Minter, G. De Mey,...). The Capella Savaria and the Stadtsingechor Halle are under the direction of Nicholas McGegan. Their style and approach are very "baroque" and worthy of Handel and though there are very few recordings to compare to, this one remains the best.

If you like Handel, you'll like this work. Just order this CD and be surprised by the beauty of the Brockes Passion.
