This 1989 recording is possibly without equal in my opinion; Duruflé did not produce a very large number of works, but refined, re-worked, and honed his output to a point where it stands out as truly exceptional. Its moods vary from the spiritually-sublime to glorious magnificence, with a huge number of emotional undercurrents such as poignancy, dark foreboding, joy, and ecstasy. The dynamic range demonstrated on this recording is wondrous, ranging from utter restraint to Leviathanic. Coupled with a virtuoso performance, one of the world's great cathedral organs, and Rolls-Royce recording techniques, this is an essential addition to your collection. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
