Domus are a very good ensemble but they are very bland in this music.If you want to see what I mean listen to Collard and the Parrenin quartet on EMI in their complete Faure chamber music box set(no 2). I dont understand why Domus got so much praise for this disc as when you listen to Collard it sounds much more authentically french and and much more expressive. Compare both ensmebles in the firsdt quartet movement. Thier are sound samples of the Domus disc on amazon.de(german amazon-just type in faure domus). I dont want to run down Domus as they are clearly excellent musicians but it just does'nt sound 'french'. The Schubert ensemble are one to avoid too but are much worse than Domus.

This is music that is constantly intriguing and beautifully (if subtly) coloured.

NO ONE plays chamber music like British chamber ensembles. And this is one of the best at the beginning of their illustrious careers.

I really like this CD.
