Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Babylon 5 truly hit its stride with the third year, building to a series of stunning revelations and plot twists. In this cliff-hanger episode it went so far as to explain the mysterious motivations of the enemy, seemingly destroy them and end on the self-sacrificial death of its lead character. Top that! Christopher Franke had already supplied the best title theme for the season and as the Shadow War developed so did the darker hues in the composer's palette. Even when weighted down by lengthy exposition, his skill at generating an ominous menace underneath is subtly effective. The re-appearance of his wife leads to "Sheridan Questions Delenn", a classic example of Franke underscoring dialogue, using long sustained tonalities and a bass counterpoint to highlight lurking doom. His showpiece for the spooky baddies is a twisted echo of children screaming. Coupled with the solo female voice for the arrival at Z'ha'dum, it makes for a most eerie latter third of the cues. Ending by going "Into The Abyss" with superb suspense, this is the z'en'ith of any bar graph chronicling the show's creative heights. --Paul Tonks
