This disc highlights the artistry of Dennis Brain, a British horn player who died in 1957 at the tragically young age of 36. Brain was an absolute master of his instrument, and these accounts of the two Strauss concertos and the lesser-known Hindemith work are spellbinding. The disc plays for only 49 minutes, and it is a shame EMI didn't include an additional work to give a more generous playing time, but it is still worth every penny. The Strauss concertos are recorded in mono sound, the Hindemith in stereo, and the 1998 Abbey Road remastering to CD is very successful. Warmly recommended.
