Amazon.co.uk Review

Dick Dale's surf-guitar provided the memorable title theme ("Misirlou"), for Quentin Tarantino's 1994 smash, and although that sound runs throughout the soundtrack (along with bits and pieces of dialogue from the movie), this is a pretty eclectic bunch of really terrific songs. I don't know how it all manages to hang together, but it does (you might say the same for the interwoven stories in the movie). Where else are you going to find Chuck Berry, Maria McKee, Al Green, The Statler Brothers, Kool & the Gang, Urge Overkill (singing a Neil Diamond ballad!), Ricky Nelson, Dusty Springfield, and the Tornadoes (among others)on one album? McKee's beautiful "If Love is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" is a standout, partly because it's less familiar. One of the few soundtracks of the '90s that went into the CD player and stayed there for weeks and months thereafter. --Jim Emerson

5.0 out of 5 stars It's "kool and the gang"!, 28 Jul 2003
This soundtrack is awesome! In the words of Jules it's "kool and the gang"! Its a real mix including chilled out grooves from Al Green and Dusty Springfield, funky 1970's disco, such as Kool and the Gang's 'Jungle Boogie', light-hearted songs like 'Flowers on the Wall' and old fashioned rock-and-roll from Chuck Berry (good to twist to - I wish I could dance like Travolta!)

Also included are quotes from the movie itself and any fan will love this - especially Jules' Ezekiel 25:17 (Samuel L Jackson is the man!) and Vincent's 'Royale wuth Cheese' (I love the "chit chat"!)

For me one of the highlights, although the whole collection is great, is Urge Overkill's 'Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon', a cover of the Neil Diamond song, which chillingly reminds of the events at Mia's house. A brilliant song!!

Any fan of Pulp Fiction should no doubt about it own this soundtrack! "Peronality goes a long way" and this soundtrack has masses of it! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars a great soundtrack, 4 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Pulp Fiction [VINYL] (Vinyl)
Quentin Tarantino is far and away one of the most ambitious movie directors around and for every movie that he makes he hand picks the songs that go on the soundtrack, believing that the soundtrack is just as important to the film as the acting and story and "Pulp Fiction" was no exception and followed the brilliant soundtrack he compiled to his classic movie "Reservoir Dogs". The soundtrack features a mix of styles from rock to funk to r and b from a diverse group of artists ranging from tracks from the sixties up to the present day. The soundtrack really fits the mood of the movie and to achieve this feel there are a number of soundbites from the movie thrown in, such as Samuel L Jackson's memorable reading of Ezekiel 25:17. It's a great album and is really one for a lover of good music owing to the diversity of the styles that are thrown together, but nevertheless if you enjoyed the movie you will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Did I break your concentration?, 2 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This is an outstanding soundtrack with a real mixture of songs and artists interspersed with great and memorable lines from the film. The old songs mix with the newer stuff really well, and there's the added bonus of the timeless 'Son of a Preacher Man' by the late, great Dusty Springfield.

It's a real eclectic mix that works well, and you don't have to concentrate too hard on what's going on, just put it on, sit back and relax. (Alternatively, you can make like you're in Jackrabbit Slims and twist 'till your socks fall off!) If you liked the film, you'll love this!!
