Product Description

From Amazon.com

Trisha Yearwood is often compared to Linda Ronstadt, and it's easy to understand why when listening to her wide-open country-rock vocal on "Better Your Heart Than Mine," which was co-authored by Andrew Gold, a former member of Ronstadt's band. Yearwood grabs hold of the rocking beat and belts out the melody as if her voice had the buzzing edge and rhythmic clout of an electric guitar. The 29-year-old singer is capable of a lot more, however, and she proves as much on her breakthrough third album. The key number is "I Don't Fall in Love So Easy." Yearwood's ability to stretch a note with a bluesy fall in pitch as if torn between defensiveness and desire is a rare skill. Willie Nelson not only wrote the Mexican-flavored "One in a Row," but he also plays the acoustic guitar solo on it and sings harmony behind her on Kimmie Rhodes' "Hard Promises To Keep." The album falls short of true greatness due to a few questionable song choices but it gives more than a few hints that Yearwood could well be the female country singer who best combines commercial appeal and artistic merit in the '90s. --Geoffrey Himes

CD Description

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is not only the artistic highlight of Trisha's career, it is one of the best albums to come outof Nashville in years. Yearwood's soaring voice adds much to the success of the album, but the quality of the songs on this collection are so superior that Trisha is well ahead ofthe game before she even opens her mouth.
The award-winning title track, written by New Yorker Hugh Prestwood, is anemotionally explosive narrative ballad about the power of music. Other songs range from rock ("If I Ain't Got You") to folk ("Hard Promises To Keep"), but most don't stray away from the straight-ahead country-pop style of one of contemporary music's clearest voices. "The Nightingale", one of the most exquisite tracks on the album, shows the artistry of whatan accomplished interpreter can create with a strong melody.

5.0 out of 5 stars An album full of quality ballads, 18 Feb 2004

(#1 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I became a fan of Trisha's from the time I played her debut album, which was full of songs that grabbed my attention instantly. This album is not like that at all - it is one of those albums that sounds more impressive each time you play it. This album is dominated by reflective ballads that suit Trisha ideally. If you want to hear Trisha sing more up-tempo material, there isn't much here, although you will enjoy If I ain't got you.

Among the great ballads here, the title track (about how hearing a certain song can bring back memories), Mr Radio (a cover of a song previously recorded by Linda Ronstadt for her 1982 album, Get closer), One in a row (a cover of an old Willie Nelson song), I don't fall in love so easy (a Rodney Crowell song), The nightingale (an excellent original song) and Lying to the moon (a song written and first recorded by Matraca Berg) are particularly noteworthy, but every song here is a gem.

This is a masterpiece from one of the finest country singers of her generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Pop/Country From Trisha!!!!, 7 Jul 2008
This was Trisha's breakthrough album and rightly so.This is one of her best albums.
Included is the big hit and title track The Song Remembers When, this is a classic song still.
Other standouts are the beautiful ballads Hard Promises To Keep which features Willie Nelson on harmonies,The Nightingale and Lying To The Moon.
She also does a great cover on Rodney Crowells song I Don't Fall In Love So Easy and Willie Nelsons One In A Row.
This album has mainly ballads and it works well for Trisha as ballads really showcase her beautiful voice perfectly.
A fine addition to your country collection....
