Product Description

CD Description

For his farewell to Warner Bros., Prince digs into his vastmusical closet and emerges with a guitar-led rock ensemble to rival his earlier (think PURPLE RAIN), harder-edged albums. As with any fashionable dresser, Prince realises the importance of accessorising, and what he presents is rock-tingedwith elements of funk and the blues.
He kicks off with the title track, tongue-in-cheekily dubbing himself a "no name reporter" and commenting on today's world: "Carjack/Used to fix flat tire". The mixture of guitar and organ riffs, samples and record scratching on this song may seem chaotic, but it works. Prince's wailing vocals and heavy guitar riffingare right at home in the straightforward "I Like It There".The album's longest song, "I Rock, Therefore I Am", is a masterfully funky affair that combines both West Coast and reggae rap styles with jazzy horns and rocked-out guitar soloing.
Prince has always been an icon of style, and his musichas reflected his eclectic tastes. CHAOS AND DISORDER is a well-crafted piece tailored to enigmatic guitar-rock specifications. From Prince's closet to your ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars The axe man is back!, 16 Mar 2004
This album rocks!! Most of Prince's newer stuff is soulfull, jazzy even which is great. But this album sees him funk out AND concentrate on the wonderful world of guitars and power chords at the same time.

I had no idea what to expect when I bought this album and was just blown away when Chaos & Disorder opened up and let fly. From then on there was no holding back and for the next 40 mins I was held prisoner by the unique blend of guitar playing and funky beats. My favourite three tracks have to be Chaos & Disorder, Zannalee and dig you better dead.

There are some slower songs like "dinner with dolores" and "I will" but in the main he's really going for it. As other reviews say and as the name of the album indicates it is quite chaotic, but really that's just what makes this a truly superb album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't listen to the reviews, 13 Jan 2004
By Mr B J MOLE (St.Albans, Hertfordshire, England) - See all my reviews
I've been listening to prince for nearly twenty years and have always been curious to hear what's going to pop out of the little purple one next. Some of his work I've found fantastic, some a bit of an effort and some just drivel. But when Prince hits his heights, there are very few who can stay with him.
Chaos and dissorder is a fantastic album featuring a number of very powerful numbers. 'Right the Wrong' which seems to be about the running out of the Indians in America, is an absolute stomper. This is a roughly produced, light-hearted, beefy album full of ideas and quality. 'Chaos and Disorder' is chaotic and disorderly but should be heard by anyone who has ever enjoyed a Prince album

5.0 out of 5 stars This rocks, 30 April 2003

(REAL NAME)
Relaxed an with nothing to prove, Prince rocks out on this great and criminaly ignored/ under rated album. If someone like Oasis or Smashing Pumpkins had released it - we would still be hearing about how it was one of the best releases of the 90s. Check out 'I like it there' - great humour and fantastic lead guitar
