The Movie 'Coneheads' was something of a mixed bag, sometimes laugh out loud, a bit different with some cool guest stars and the soundtrack is much the same. Ignoring Slashes cover version of Magic Carpet Ride (Check out the 'Go' Soundtrack for a better version) there are some nice rarities from some cool bands. The Chili Peppers Soul to Squeeze was a b-side from the BloodSugarSexMagic album which really deserved to be a single in its own right, slow and mellow, just the thing for a warm summers night. Tainted Love is a classic, so you'll need a copy of that in your collection, never mind the Marlin Manso version. There's a pretty good track from Digable Planets (what happened to them? Last I saw of them was at Glastonbury '93!), A-Ha's Morten Harket puts in a solo effort, so die hard fans of the 80's band will want this one to complete their collection. Dan Ackroyd streches his vocal cords too, not always a good idea (anyone remember the 'Dragnet' soundtrack?). REM put in a good show but the scene stealer is the ever interesting Barenakedladies frantic cover of Public Enemys Fight the Power, a total classic and a live favourite at last available for your repeated listening pleasure. It goes with out saying if you liked the movie, you'll like the soundtrack but I think it makes a pretty good snap shot of the alternative scene in the early '90's too.
