Product Description

CD Description

As the '80s drew to a close, Clapton's lifestyle included fraternising with models and wearing designer suits to go with stylish haircuts. Amid all this jet-setting, Clapton released JOURNEYMAN, an album that found his songwriting involvement limited to cuts co-written with Foreigner's Mick Jones ("Bad Love") and Robert Cray ("Old Love"). Respected producerRuss Titelman twisted knobs as a number of famous guests contributed to the creative process. Old friend George Harrison contributed guitar, harmonies and a song ("Run So Far") while Clapton's band from AUGUST (Greg Phillinganes, Nathan East, Phil Collins) are also present.
Although the slick production of most of Clapton's '80s work is evident, his passion is far from lacking. "Running On Faith" finds Slowhand looking deep inside himself as a gospel choir chimes away in the background. On Ray Charles' "Hard Times" Clapton remindslisteners that heartache is around the corner. The sweet nothings whispered in "Lead Me On" are made that much sweeter by the harmonies of Cecil and Linda Womack. E.C. also manages to have a ball with a shuffling "Hound Dog" and a rollicking take on Bo Diddley's "Before You Accuse Me".

Have followed this mans' career since John Mayalls Blues Breakers, way back when. This album was purchased to replace worn out cassette tapes.
I am still a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A diverse yet truly wonderful collection of melodies!, 21 Mar 2001
By A Customer
I first listened to this album when I was aged 12, and instantly I became a big fan of Eric Clapton. The album provides a scintillating insight into the world of Eric Clapton as he simply gets better with age. My favourite track is Bad Love, which most people would be able to relate to, which begins with a haunting yet rousing melody. Another indication of this album's success is that it got under my skin, and I was humming Bad Love and No Alibis for days. Plus I now have a large Clapton collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Anything For Your Love but Nothing Much, 13 Mar 2007
By Jay "The Amazon Reviewer" (Mauritius) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
A pleasant album to listen to. Nothing pretentious except 'Hound Dog' which seems more of a karaoke track than a Clapton classic. Barring that, a really nice song, Anything For Your Love which is one of my favourite Clapton tunes. Fair in the sense is an apt description of this album

This is a good offering from Eric Clapton and his band. EC's voice just gets better and better, and on this album his guitar playing is more prominent than on recent albums. Read more
