Product Description
Description
Following the success of the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, Laurie Anderson decided to film one of her tours for theatrical release. Unfortunately, Home of the Brave didn't have much impact in the theatres. But the soundtrack CD attests that it was a great show nonetheless. Previously, Anderson had worked solo with slides, samples and her pearly white electric violin. The props remained for this tour, but America's best known performance artist was just starting to make her own brand of funky pop music with a real liveband including downtown bassist Bill Laswell and percussionist extraordinaire David Van Tighem.
These mostly new songs/narratives find Anderson startlingly lowering her voice several octaves with the help of a vocoder attached to her trusty violin. The mood is infectious enough that after special guest William Burroughs does his croaking intro to"Sharkey's Machine"--no vocoder necessary--Anderson actually gets him to waltz her around the stage. Now that's something you have to see!
