By the mid-to-late '70s, Alice Cooper had become a huge solo star, having left the band initially known collectively bythe same name far behind. That period is represented here by this concert album culled from a 1977 two-night stand at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Finding Alice backed by the same heavy band that made Lou Reed's earlier concert album ROCK & ROLL ANIMAL such a success, THE ALICE COOPER SHOW contains plenty of classics, including "Eighteen", "Is It My Body", "Billion Dollar Babies", and "School's Out". Three ballads are also included on this set, "Only Women Bleed", "You and Me", and "I Never Cry".

What can you say about this. Considering Alice is one of rocks premiere live performers this is an utterly lamentable and feeble effort.

The sound quality is generally poor and a bit muffled. Classics like Billion Dollar Babies and Under My Wheels totally lack substance. Only Women Bleed sounds no different to the studio version.

Eighteen and School's Out both seem to lack direction and all through Alice's voice sounds strained and tired. The band also seem very uninspired throughout.

The one star is for the only standout track 'I Never Cry' which is well sung and the piano sounds great. It's actually much better than the version on 'Go To Hell'.

Other than that it's all distinctly poor

This album is a shoddy rendition of Alice Cooper's stage show. The tracks all sound poorly produced and are generally pretty poor. When I bought this album, I was expecting great things from it. I already owned an American live bootleg album of Alice's "Welcome To My Nightmare" show, which is absolutely terrific. The standout track on that LP was Devil's Food/Black Widow, which features some amazing blistering guitarwork between Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner that last for a good five minutes before Vincent Price appears, pretty much as it is on the DVD/VHS "Welcome To My Nightmare" show. Imagine my horror when I heard the version on this album, the two songs only last about four minutes, where are the duelling guitars? Why is Alice's voice so limp? And why does School's Out suck so much?!
Avoide like the plague, unless you are into that kind of thing.

Alice at this point in his career was burned out and it seemed odd Warners still pressurised Alice into this Live album.
This was recorded at the end of the Silver Screen tour which finally crushed Alice. Alice vocals are a bit hit and miss and because of this it does not have the gutsy feel you normally get with the Coop. The live ballards work well live especially Only Women Bleed, other stand out tracks Billion Dollar babies and the Black Widow. If you require a document of late seventies alchol abuse this is it. Not bad considering his health problems, Dick Wagners playing is always good, though his interpetation of Schools out lacks substence. If you play this really loud it can still be highly enjoyable. Coop still is the Tops.
