Product Description

CD Description

By the time of Bad Company's third release, RUN WITH THE PACK, the critics had begun hitting the band with charges concerning its formulaic approach. The assertion bears some validity but completely misses the only point that really counts: Bad Company had a damn good formula. It is impossible to refute the merits of album opener "Live for the Music". With a cutting three-chord riff and a tugging backbeat, Bad Company levels the overblown art rock of the '70s with a simple 4/4 kick to the gut. The album's highlights are numerous. Theglorious "Silver, Blue and Gold", is possibly the band's best love song, while the title track travels on a lean path of bedrock. The band also takes a good whack at the Coasters'classic tale of hormonal surges, "Youngblood".

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, 17 Nov 2003
By Free Me (HERTS United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I'm surprised Run With The Pack hasn't been reviewed previously when lesser lights have been not only reviewed, but praised (see Desolation Angels - truly awful).

This was the first Bad Company album I ever bought in its original vinyl & gate fold packaging. To this day it is still my favourite.

It has good rockers in 'Live For The Music', 'Sweet Little Sister' & 'Honey Child', a fun track in 'Young Blood' which is very catchy, as well as the excellent title track (possibly their best) with guitars, piano & 'strings'. Blended together with a great concert track of 'Silver, Blue & Gold' and the slower but just as satisfying 'Simple Man' and 'Love Me Somebody' this is a very enjoyable album.

It is generally thought that Bad Company peaked with their first album and went slowly down hill thereafter. I think this album proves this is not the case, although subsequent offerings may suggest the decline happened after Run With The Pack.

Take my word for it, give it a try. If you like good solid rock you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Above the Pack, 20 Feb 2009
By Iain (Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This album used to take a back seat to the big hit single albums, Bad Co and Straight Shooter. But it's up there with them and still hangs together after all these years. You get a lot for your money. Unbeatable Paul Rodgers' vocals. Perfect, raunchy but somehow tempered rock guitar. Controlled, understated power. When you start the CD just turn up the volume to about 10. "Live for the Music" - and they give you everything they've got. Great lead guitar and bluesy vocal. It's just you and the band in a room, entertaining you. The arrangements are simple but never boring. "Honey Child" is straight-up rock. "Love me somebody" is a desperate loner kind of ballad, with lots of piano and organ, perfect for Rodger's voice. If the guitar sounds a bit too close to Country, Ralphs rocks it back up with the title track - sing along to "you never give me my money, you only give me your sympathy" and you just have to feel better. Then suddenly it's all bar piano and strings. Followed by the soulful, lost-love ballad "Silver, Blue and Gold". "Do Right By Your Woman" with flangeful dreaminess. My favourite rocker is the driving classic "Sweet Li'l Sister" - try keeping off the accelerator with this on. A moody album, maybe. "Simple Man" is simply a fantastic rock ballad and for me the real standout. Love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overrated, 20 Oct 2007
By Mr. M. C. Gaylard (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Okay. I bought this when it first came out way back when. To me each of the Bad Co albums seemed to lack something. The first was just finding their collective feet, the second they seemed to gel better but the song writing was not fully there. This just seemed a step back at the time. It smacks of commercial sellout. Some songs are good but there is now a formula in place albeit a viable one commercially. But there is nothing here that sounds like they are doing anything more than coasting.
