2.0 out of 5 stars Rather drab and unimaginative, 27 Jul 2001
I am a Led Zeppelin fan. This does not mean that I am at all closed minded about my music tastes, I appreciate a wide variety of music, be it: Jazz, ambient, prog, folk and even that horrible style called eighties (as long as I can always go and throw up straight after litening). However, my faith in Jimmy Page as a musical genius was severely dented upon buying `Mean Business`. The drummer in the Firm has obviously never heard John Bonhan or Buddy Rich, he seems stuck in that horrible `Boom, Bash, Boom, Bash` eighties rock beat. I fail to understand why two talents such as Page and Rodgers would lower themselves to playing with this. The songs can be midely interesting, Rodgers singing had glimpses of greatness, and pages guitaring uses some interesting sounds with sklllfull playing. However nothing grabbed me about this album, and had I not known the talents involved I would bever have even given it a chance. This is by no means a bad album, indeed the eightees spawned many worse, however anyone who understands what I am saying should steer clear of this. (Buy some T.Monk or B.Dylan instead, leave the Eightees to rot in musical hell!)
