Having loved for some time Bach's English Suites, I decided to try Gould playing Bach about a year ago, knowing that he was quite eccentric in his playing. I found this recording electrifying - the energy and dynamism is extraordinary. I have not yet tired of it (only a year though!) - indeed, I have since gone on to buy Gould's interpretation of the 48 preludes and fugues but that recording is not in the same league as this one. If you are the kind of person who is not convinced of the merits of having several recordings of the same work, buy Hewitt or Perriah playing these pieces and then buy Gould - you will note the difference!
