1.0 out of 5 stars Glorious Music; Shocking Tuning, 5 Jul 2003
By R. Bertz "Ras Pixie" (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It is a real shame that the beautiful music of the Frostiana set has to be spoiled by a truly appalling choral performance. Not all of this set is bad - anything where the Bass section does not appear is fine, but I honestly cannot believe that the conductor allowed the final recording of most of it to go to press. It is almost as though the choir and the orchestra were recorded separately and then spliced together. I cannot understand, otherwise, how they could not hear how shockingly out of tune (nearly a whole tone in some places) they were at the end of unaccompanied sections when the instruments come back in, in the original key! Unfortunately, I have never heard such a bad version of this stunning set of Robert Frost poems - even the amateur choir I first did them with, was better.
