Be careful: this might not be the best Disney CD for you., 23 Feb 2004
By A Customer
I bought this as an impulse buy while on holiday in the US and was only able to listen to it a couple of times before I arrived home (I had to constantly negotiate for the use of my brother's CD-player), so it was a bit of a risk, and even now I'm not totally sure whether or not it was worth it. Although I enjoy listening to a number of the songs, some of the later ones from the earlier Disney films are different vocally in a way that annoys me. I've never been a very big fan of the earlier films, e.g. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or even Cinderella, and I don't think that their soundtracks can compare to some of the later ones, e.g. Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Pocahontas. There is, of course, a rather large possibility that this is completely due to which of the films I grew up with! And all of this quite obviously boils down to personal opinion, but I don't consider this CD to be very good value for money. Disney have a large number of box sets, CD collections and soundtracks for you to choose from, so I would recommend you sort through them all to find the one that best suits what you want. One last, more positive, point that I'd like to add on this disc is that track 4, 'Home', is not from the animated feature of Beauty and the Beast, but the stage production, which was surprisingly refreshing. It's a beautiful song that I would never have heard otherwise, so I'm grateful for that. I've just found a two-CD collection, including this one and an additional disc with some more up-to-date songs, on Amazon for around about the same price, so if you're desperately looking for a Disney Princess CD, I'd definitely recommend that one more than this one! Still, though, think carefully about what you want from your collection: it might be better to get an individual soundtrack.
