4.0 out of 5 stars An intelligent, if not highly original sound, 4 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Hiding in Waiting was my second encounter with Rosetta Stone after the 'On the side of angels' CD. I was very impressed by the industrial sound used which, while having obvious influences from 'Sisters of Mercy' still stood out in its own right. The CD is short (under ten tracks) but contains no fillers, as each track is a very enjoyable romp through nineties industrial Goth. The covers are particularly impressive - 'Living in the Ceiling' and 'Venus in Furs' throwing a new heavier slant on the originals, and improving them for it. The album as a whole has an angsty modern feel, and has enough variation to avoid becoming a Gothic cliche. If you're new to Gothic music this is a perfect album to start with - it has variety and a 'catchiness' some Gothic music lacks - each song is intelligently driven with a punchy industrial sound and at times beautiful harmony. If you're a stalwart of the Gothic music genre you'll find few surprises here; Rosetta Stones sound hasn't changed much throughout their musical history, and the scarcity of original songs could be off putting if you're looking for something new or innovative. If you haven't heard them before though, or if you (like me) just can't get enough of this 'Sisters' inspired sound, I would highly recomend this.
