Casey and McGlynn are virtuosos and can probably play in just about any style of music they wish. And with this cd they wished to play jazz/pop instrumentals with fast finger pickin' electrified guitar, drums, lots of harmonica solos, and various violin stylings. Then, in the midst of this forgettable jazz, there are three (or so) Enya-esque songs. The songs are the best part of the album, because they at least have a smackerel of traditional Irish feeling and Casey has a good voice. I've been a fan of Casey: Mousekin's Shoe on Donal Lunny's Coolfin cd is a fantastic tune she composed and plays. She and McGlynn play a breathtaking duet on McCarthy's Baltimore Fiddle Fair cd released in 2002. She and McGlynn are both playing with Lunny and friends on the video "The Irish Gala" and she is a standout. And the great fiddle tunes you hear in the film "Waking Ned Devine" are played by Casey, according to the film credits. So I had high expectations for this cd and I'm afraid it is a miserable failure in my book. I'd love to hear a live recording of them from a recent tour. Surely this cd was an experiment for them to try their hands at jazz lite with a whole bunch of bandmates. Well, now they've done it and it is boring. Let's hope they make a recording that does them justice.

This is a great album from two of Ireland's finest musicians. The music ranges from the upbeat Causeway to the more mellow Rainy Summer and here are 3 delightful songs from Nollaig. All of this with a very solid backing group and some stunning harmonica playing from Brendan Power make this album one of my favourites.
