As I listened to this recording I suddenly doubted that I knew the piece at all. Suddenly I realized why! I was hearing lines of melody that I had never heard before. Boulez's orchestra brings it all out in a glowing rendition of one of the 20th century's most beautiful pieces. La Mer to me marks the beginning of 'modern music,' and the recording here is very beautiful.
