Although I like the First symphony, the seventh is one of my all time favourites. I've listened to many different recordings of it, and none of them comes close to this one.
Bernstein had this ability to go that little bit further and squeeze that little bit more emotion and sheer power out of the music. He took a lot of this piece a little slower than other conductors (which is why it won't fit onto one CD) but managed to keep the tension going throughout.
Get the neighbours to clear off, put this in your CD player and crank it right up. You'll see what I mean.
Even if you are only looking for the seventh symphony, go for this one, yes it's a double, but it's still worth every penny.
