I have listened to or owned many versions of this, my favourite piece of classical music over the years, but this is far and away the best. I owned it many years ago on cassette but somehow lost it, and it has taken me a while to get round to buying it on CD, but , boy, is it worth it. The Berlin philharmonic just seem to have the correct feel for this piece. The correct amount of power when needed or the correct amount of delicacy - they have no equal.Buy this and play to your children, they will grow up better people - play it to your animals and they will stop scratching the furniture - play it to armies and wars will cease - OK, OK, I got a bit carried away there, but trust me, its good for you.

Being a pianist I have played much of Beethoven's work before but only recently stumbled across this gorgeous symphony. More commonly known as the 'Pastoral' symphony, many people may recognise it from Disney's 'Fantasia' as it was used towards the end (the bit with all the unicorns and people as half person, half horse!)It is a gorgous piece of music though and I would highly recommend it to anyone even if you don't usually listen to classical music. It's perfect for revision as well as it's so relaxing! Buy it and love it!!!

Puts the R back in Romantic. You get a sense of the wonder of the world around you that they tried to convey, 'erwachen heiterer Empfindungen bei der Ankunft auf dem Lande' is still one of the few pieces of music that can have tears streaming down my face with rapture
