Mica Paris is, in my opinion, the finest soul singer that The UK has ever produced. Her voice and style of singing stands comparison to any of the greats. Like all the Brits, she brings elements of pop, rock, dance, Carribean and world to the music, making it very special.

Contribution made the top 30 albums, but none of its singles made the top 40. Her success has been a bit patchy. I think she came along before the world was ready for her. If she happened a few years later, perhaps she could have enjoyed the sustained success of Beverley Knight, or the instant superstardom of Corrine Bailey Rae. Never mind, Mica Paris has still made many great records.

The emphasis on Contribution is dance. My favourite track is an updated, uptempo version of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles record 'More Love', which alone is worth the price of the album. Smokey wrote the song for his wife Claudette. Mica's version is lively, but still heartfelt and touching. Prince's 'If I Love U 2 Nite' is also worth a good listen.

The 1990 version of the album seems to have an extra track 'I Can't Stop Loving You'.

It's great to see Mica on TV on 'Strictly Come Dancing' etc. I'm sure her warmth and natural way will continue to make her a star on TV, but for me, her greatest talent will always be her voice.
