After thousands of CDs overusing Connie's hits "Stupid Cupid", or "Everybody's somebody's fool" until even her fans couldn't stand them anymore, "The Italian Collection" is a real treat for every serious fan of the Queen of Hearts. On "The Italian Collection", Volume 1 and 2, you'll find some of her greatest Italian Hits, such as "Tango della Gelosia" and "Mamma" (a No. 2 for her in the U. K. in 1960). But mostly you'll find rare tracks from her Italian-language albums - songs that are almost unknown in Europe like "Nun e peccato" or "Il Cielo in una stanza" or "Statte vicino a 'mme". 'Most of the songs appear as a CD-premiere in Europe. As a bonus, Connie herself (who supervised the production of these CDs) has added ultra-rare outtakes from a live concert she appeared at on March 3, 1970 in Brazov, Romania. "The Italian Collection" simply is a "must-have" in every serious fan's collection. Let's hope PolyGram will produce a CD soon with the same concept including Connie's Spanish and Portuguese Recordings

Italian Collection Vol. 1 & 2 is actually only a half of the real collection. However Vol.1 keeps the high level, Vol.2 is disappointing. Both volumes possess enough empty space to hold indeed Greatest Italian (O Sole Mio; Santa Lucia; Funiculi, Funicula) or some modern favorites (Volare; Come Prima; Addio, Addio; Romantica; Tango Italiano; Violino Tzigano; 24 Mila Baci, etc.). Instead you will find here many boring songs and the hit La Mamma; the latter composed by Charles Aznavour (Armenian/French) and sung totally in English. The fans of Connie's Italian performances will still look for those omited positions (what about Italian Collection Vol.3 ?). Only three stars (for Neapolitan Medley and songs 2;12;13;17).
