Product Description

From Amazon.com

By the time they released Made from Technetium in 1997, Man or Astro-Man? had been releasing records prolifically since 1993, most displaying a reverence for '60s surf music and irreverent intergalactic shtick. The four Alabamans--Birdstuff, Star Crunch, Coco, and Dexter X--sound more like Sonic Youth than the Surfaris on Technetium, though they haven't let down their space-age aesthetic a bit. Titles such as "Structo (Mr. Microphone Mixup)" and "Theoretical Sounds of Slow Motion" contain grungy Batman guitar, feisty two-beat drumming, and vocal snippets from cheesy science-fiction movies, junior high science-class films, instructional tapes, and other odd sources. Elemental Astro-Man. --James Rotondi

4.0 out of 5 stars The new Man or Astroman?, 15 Jul 2009
By Frederik Storm - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is unlike the 5 other Man or Astroman records I've got, and I've got to be honest, at the first listen I was a bit disappointed, this was not like the other records (only talking pre this album). The sound was different, it's kinda hard to describe, because it still has all the elements of the other albums (more vocals though). It just seems like it's all boiled together in another way.

Now being that huge Man or Astroman? fan that I am, I was not going to just leave this album, so I put it on again, and again, and the album starting growing. This albums feels more like a whole experience, it creates a mood, it feels more "harmonic" and peaceful then their other records.
It still has the brilliantly put sound samples, weird moments that reminds you that this could only have been made by one band, like the last track ending with 20 minutes of a high frequent tone (I really don't know why they made it go on for 20 minutes). The album still has great guitar parts, though not quite as memorable as on their earlier records.

This is not as good as any of the albums that came before it, but really how could it be, all the records leading up to this are absolutely amazing.

So my suggestion would be, to any Astroman out there, who already got, Man or Astro-man?, Project infinity, Destroy all Astro-men, Experiment Zero etc. I'd definitely recommend this album, but if you are new to the amazing sound of the Astromen, I'll recommend their early records.
