This is an absolutely fantastic CD and at an amzaing price. I have played several of these pieces and it really is some of the best music around. It's exciting, charming and a lot of fun. The two sets of English Dances are the highlights but theres a lot to offer in the other suites (particularly the third movement of the scottish dances). The playing here is spot on and nobody who buys this CD will be dissapointed.

Easy to listen to and full of the characteristics each set of dances represent, this CD is well worth a look in. Arnold's repertoire is huge, and these dances are only a small portion of his works, but they stand alone as being the most accessible. They contain none of the jarring chords and themes found in Arnold's orchestral symphonies and are more 'complete' than his Little Suites for Orchestra.
The dances are played very well by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, with all the emotion required (and in the right places), although some of the interpretation of Arnold's music is questionable (this however, is a matter of subjective taste).
All in all, this collection of 'British' dances is a delight to listen to, and the Cornish and English dances especially endear to the listener.
